How to Get the Preloader Screen to Show Up on Wii

The "Preloader" hack for Nintendo Wii is designed to flash the system memory of the console and allow the user to select and import home-brew applications and games. The hack works by interrupting the Wii's start-up process. It will display an option screen before the console's normal user interface has a chance to boot. While this hack should only be performed by users who know what they are doing, the process to boot the "Preloader" screen is a straightforward one.

SD card
Computer with SD slot or reader

Instructions

  Download the "Preloader" files from the site in Resources. Double-click the downloaded file to unzip.

  Insert an SD card containing at least 1MB of free space into the SD slot of your computer or SD reader. Copy all unzipped files to the root directory of your SD card, then eject and remove the card.

  Open the small door on the top of the Wii to access the SD slot. Insert the SD card containing the "Preloader" files into this slot.

  Press the Wii's "Power" button while holding the console's "Reset" button to display the "Preloader" boot screen.
