Wii TV Requirements

The Wii console is the only non-HD system in the seventh generation of video game consoles, so getting it hooked up to a TV isn't as difficult. The system and the set can be connected with either composite or component cables. Users can also choose between standard and widescreen aspect ratios to get the best possible image on either a standard or widescreen television.
  1. Composite Inputs

    • The Wii ships with a composite cable for audio and video output. TVs must have the red, white and yellow composite cable inputs to connect to a Wii system out of the box. These cables allow the Wii images to be displayed in 480i resolution.

    Component Inputs

    • Resolution aficionados can opt to buy component cables for the Wii system to have the image displayed in 480p resolution. TV's must have the red, green and blue component video inputs and the standard red and white audio inputs to use these cables with the Wii.

    Aspect Ratio

    • The Wii system natively supports 16:9 widescreen and 4:3 standard aspect ratios. If you have a widescreen television, select "16:9" from the Wii's aspect ratio menu. If you have a standard television, select "4:3."
