How to Set Up the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is Nintendo's online gaming service that is accessible through its current generation of consoles. It lets you play Nintendo Wi-Fi-compatible games on the Internet with your friends or the online community. To use the service, you must first connect your console to the Internet. The easiest way to do this is by connecting your Wii, Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi to your wireless network at home.

Instructions

  1. Wii

      Turn on your console and select the "Wii" button on the bottom-left corner of the console's main menu.

      Click on the "Wii Settings" option and then click on the blue arrow on the right to bring up the second screen of options.

      Select the "Internet" option and click on one of the three connection slots with the word "None" after it.

      Click on "Wireless Connection," followed by "Search for an Access Point" and "OK" when prompted. Choose the wireless network to which you want to connect.

      Enter the WEP key for your wireless network, if prompted, then press the "OK" button. Click on "Save Settings," then "Yes."

    Nintendo DS/DS Lite

      Insert a Wi-Fi-compatible game into your Nintendo DS console and turn the system on. Start the game and navigate to the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Setup" screen. Consult the game's manual for information on how to do this in the specific game.

      Tap the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings" option, then tap on an empty connection slot.

      Tap "Search for an Access Point" and choose the wireless network to which you want to connect. Enter the WEP key for the network, if prompted.

    Nintendo DSi/DSi XL

      Turn on your Nintendo DSi and tap on the wrench icon on the main menu screen.

      Scroll to the third page of options using the blue arrow on the right and tap "Internet," followed by "Connection Settings."

      Tap on the "None" button opposite one of the connection slots and select "Search for an Access Point" to bring up a list of available wireless connections.

      Tap on the network to which you wish to connect and enter your router's WEP key, if prompted.
