How to Set Up a Second Wii Controller

One controller, a Wii Remote, is included with the purchase of a Nintendo Wii. Since Wii is lots of fun when played with others, it's not long before Wii owners purchase one or more additional controllers. The Wii console supports up to four controllers, and the process for setting up an additional controller to work with a Wii is relatively simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the battery cover from the back of the Wii Remote and install two AA batteries. Make sure to insert the minus end first.

    • 2

Sync the Wii Remote with the Wii console. This allows the controller to communicate with the console. Turn on the Wii console by pressing the power button. Open the SD card slot cover, which is located on the front of the Wii console.

    • 3

Press the "SYNC" button located on the inside of the SD card slot. With the battery cover still off the back of your controller, press the "SYNC" button inside the remote, just beneath the right battery compartment.

    • 4

Wait for the LED light located on the front of the Wii console to stop blinking. This indicates that synchronization is complete. Replace the battery cover. Your second Wii Remote is ready to use. Repeat this process as needed for additional Wii controllers.
