How to Use Manual for Mario Kart on the Wii

"Mario Kart" was Nintendo's first kart racing game and was re-released in 2008 after Nintendo put out the motion-controlled Wii console. The Wii update has many of the classic features, but Nintendo did make some changes. Players choose from karts and motorcycles for the race, and they have the option of playing in either manual or automatic mode. This does not refer to the shifting gears but to the ability to control the drifting feature.

Things You'll Need

  • Any controller compatible with the Wii console.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the manual option from the start up menu on "Mario Kart." Point the Wii remote at the TV and position the arrow on the manual option on the screen. Click on the "A" button to choose the option, and then click "A" again to confirm.

    • 2

Move the steering wheel, with a Wii remote installed, from side to side to drive the kart. Use the "B" button to manually control the drift through turns. Use the "R" button if you're using a classic control in manual mode.

    • 3

Press and hold the "B" button as you turn corners to drift. This is the only way to make sharp turns in manual mode without losing speed. Drifting will produce white sparks from the back of the vehicle. The sparks change color the longer the "B" button is held down. The color change indicates the mini turbo feature is ready and accessible.

    • 4

Press down on the "B" button until the sparks from the vehicle turn color. Let go of the button and the mini turbo will take effect. The longer the button is held down, the bigger the turbo boost will be.
