What Does Sync Mean for the Nintendo Wii?

Common words or terms in the tech world often have several meanings. In this case, the word "sync" associated with the Nintendo Wii has three meanings: connecting a controller to the console, calibrating Wii Motion Plus and setting up the sensor bar.
  1. Connecting the Controller to the Console

    • The Wii Remote and the Wii console both have orange buttons under a plastic cover. The orange button is underneath the battery cover on the Wii Remote, and it's next to the SD card slot on the Wii console. Pressing both buttons syncs the controller to the console.

    Calibrating Wii Motion Plus

    • An on-screen prompt to calibrate Wii Motion Plus will appear while playing Wii Motion Plus-enabled Wii games. Laying the controller face-down on a flat surface will sync the device to the controller.

    Calibrating the Sensor Bar

    • The Wii sensor bar allows infrared tracking of the Wii Remote when the controller is pointed at it. A setting for calibrating the sensor bar in the Wii System Options allows you to select the location of the sensor bar, which will be either above or below the television.
