How to Connect a Wii to an AT&T Router

Players can access weather reports, news headlines and download new games by connecting their Nintendo Wii console to the Internet. If you have an AT&T router you can use either a wired or wireless connection to get Internet service on your Wii. The Wii comes wireless Internet ready out of the box, but you will need to buy a LAN adapter if you want to use a wired connection.

Instructions

    • 1

Establish a wireless connection with your AT&T router by selecting the "Wii Options" button at the bottom of the Wii Menu. Choose "Wii Settings" on the next screen and then the "Internet" option.

    • 2

Enter "Connection Settings" once you have reached the "Internet" menu. The next screen will show three open connections if you have not connected the Wii to the Internet before. Click on one that says "None" if you have used a different Internet configuration for the Wii previously.

    • 3

Select "Wireless Connection" on the next page and "Search for an Access Point" on the following screen. The Wii will find nearby access points and display them on the next screen. Choose the one you wish to use and select "OK" to save the settings and "OK" once more to test the connection. If the test succeeds, you are connected.

    • 4

Establish a wired connection by connecting the LAN adapter to the back of the Wii console. Plug an Ethernet cable into the other end of the LAN adapter and connect the cable to your router.

    • 5

Access the "Connection Settings" using the process outlined in the first two steps. Choose "Wired Connection" on the connection screen and then select "OK" to test the connection. If the test works, you are connected to the Internet.
