Instructions for Drive Replacement in a Wii

The Nintendo Wii game console plays games formatted on disks. These disks are inserted into the Wii's disk drive. This drive can be damaged over time. A broken or damaged disk drive on your Wii can be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Wii console and unplug all cables from the rear of the unit. Turn your Wii upside down.

    • 2

Use the tip of a Phillips screwdriver to pop the covers off of each of the four screws on the corners of the bottom of the Wii. Then remove the screws.

    • 3

Turn the Wii on its side so that the side with the serial number sticker is facing up. Remove all screws on this side of the Wii.

    • 4

Flip the Wii onto its other side and gently pull the white panels off of this side. Then remove all screws on this side of the Wii.

    • 5

Grip the Wii faceplate and gently pry it off. Be careful not to pull it too far away from the Wii because it is still connected to the console via a cable. Unplug this cable from its port in the front of the Wii and set the faceplate aside.

    • 6

Remove the rectangular black cover on the side of the Wii where you removed the white panels. More screws will now be revealed on this side. Remove them.

    • 7

Lift the top case of the Wii off of the unit and set it aside. The DVD drive is now exposed in the housing, but it is encased in a silver frame.

    • 8

Pull the silver frame off of the DVD drive.

    • 9

Remove the four screws from each corner of the DVD drive.

    • 10

Lift the drive up slightly and turn it to the side to expose its underside. You will notice a thick data cable and a thin white power cable connected to the bottom of the drive. Unplug them both.

    • 11

Connect the cables to the new drive and reverse the steps for reassembly.
