How to Troubleshoot RockBand 2 for the Wii

Rock Band 2 for the Nintendo Wii is a video game in which multiple players can play along with popular songs using controllers that look like musical instruments. The Wii's Wiimote is inserted into guitar, drum kit and microphone controllers to add to the musical game experience. Each player can choose the level at which they play, ranging from easy to expert, and players can join together to form a band.

Instructions

  1. How to Troubleshoot the Guitar

    • 1

Connect the Wiimote to the guitar. Make sure you have batteries in the Wiimote.

    • 2

Plug the wireless adapter, or dongle, into the USB port. Press the guitar button on the dongle, then press the sync button.

    • 3

Press the sync button on the guitar controller.

    • 4

Call Nintendo for a replacement part if the guitar still does not work.

    How to Troubleshoot the Drums

    • 5

Plug the drum pedal into the drum kit, and make sure the drum kit is plugged into the USB controller. Try plugging it into another USB plug if necessary.

    • 6

Connect the Wiimote to the drum kit, and verify that its batteries are good.

    • 7

Connect the batteries underneath the drum kit.

    • 8

Press down the sync button on the drum kit and on the dongle.

    • 9

Call Nintendo if the drums still do not work, as either the drum kit itself or the drum pedal may need replacement.

    How to Troubleshoot the Microphone

    • 10

Plug the microphone into one of the USB ports on the Wii. Use the Wiimote to sign the microphone in to the game, and set the vocal settings.

    • 11

Install fresh batteries in your microphone.

    • 12

Plug the microphone into alternate USB ports on the Wii. If it still doesn't work, you may need a replacement microphone.

    How to Troubleshoot Sync Problems

    • 13

Use only guitars and drum kits that are compatible with the Nintendo Wii. Not all Rock Band instruments used with other gaming platforms will work with the Wii. Install fresh batteries in the guitars and drum kit.

    • 14

Load the Rock Band 2 game disc into the Wii. Go to the title screen.

    • 15

Turn on both guitars. Plug in the dongles for both guitars. Follow the on-screen instructions to sync the guitars. Watch for the steady blue light on the dongle to confirm that a guitar is synced.

    • 16

If only one guitar syncs, press down the sync button on that guitar's dongle. The dongles, or wireless adapters, will now try to re-sync with their respective guitars.

    • 17

If the guitars still do not both sync, leave the one synced guitar's dongle plugged in to the Wii. Unplug the other dongles for the second guitar and the drum kit from the Wii. Replug the second guitar's dongle and the drum kit dongle into the USB ports on the back of the dongle already synced to the working guitar. Try to re-sync the second guitar and the drum kit.
