How to Play Burned DVDs on Wii Homebrew

Modifying the Wii game console enables its operating system to do things Nintendo never intended, such as play burned backup copies of games you legally own. A modified Wii adds a special ̶0;Homebrew̶1; channel to the menu selections upon startup. The Homebrew channel allows new programs to be downloaded to the Wii, as well as providing the menu commands for playing burned game backups. The procedure for playing a burned game backup is straightforward.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the modified Wii. Insert the burned backup game disc into the slot on the front of the Wii. Push the disc into the slot until the motor mechanism engages and pulls the disc in on its own.

    • 2

Wait for the home menu to appear on the screen. Select the ̶0;Homebrew channel̶1; from the choices presented on the screen. Press the ̶0;A̶1; button on the Wii remote. Select ̶0;Start̶1; on the new screen that appears. Press the ̶0;A̶1; button on the Wii remote.

    • 3

Select the icon of the burned backup game disc from the list of choices presented on the new screen when it appears. Press the ̶0;A̶1; button on the Wii remote. Wait as the Wii blacks out and reboots. Wait as the backup game disc engages and boots up in the Wii. Play the game once its menu appears on the screen.
