How to Unlock the Wii Aquarium

"My Aquarium" on the Nintendo Wii is an aquarium simulator, not a game. It is a replica fish tank that users can make into a freshwater or saltwater environment with 40 fish to choose from (when all have been unlocked). At the start of the simulation, players are given approximately 14 fish. New fish are revealed the more the user interacts with the environment through feeding, breeding and sharing.

Instructions

Switch on the Wii console and go to the Wii Menu. "My Aquarium" is a downloaded feature and will be located in the menu as a WiiWare program. Click the icon to start "My Aquarium." The simulation is based on a usage and reward system, so you are given new fish when you have interacted with your aquarium a certain number of times. This is worked out over time spent, number of interactions, and so on, so it is different for each person--depending on how your tank is initially set up.

Feed the fish in your aquarium regularly: the more you access the program, the more fish you will unlock. Essentially, the simulation requires you to spend hours of gameplay interacting with it to gain the maximum reward, which is unlocking all 40 fish.

Run the program every day, even if it is just to check up on your aquarium, as this all adds up to the usage needed to unlock fish quickly. Exit the program completely so that you are starting a new session each time you go back to your aquarium.

Send aquariums to friends who also have the game using the Wii Connect online software. You can make aquariums for special dates such as birthdays and holidays. Once your friend has received your gift, more species will randomly be unlocked in your aquarium the next time you check on your fish.
