How to Reprogram Wii Remotes

Reprogramming Wii remotes, also known as synchronization, has two modes. Standard mode adds extra remotes to the system. One-time mode allows Wii users to use extra remotes on other Wii consoles.

Instructions

  1. Reprogram Wii Remotes in Standard Mode

      Turn on the Wii and press the button labeled ̶0;Power̶1; located at the top of the Wii. This turns on the game console. Ensure the power is on by noticing the green light.

      Prepare to reprogram Wii remotes by opening the cover on the Wii, located on the front. This is the secure digital (SD) card slot location. Open the covers on the backs of the remotes where you will find the batteries and ̶0;SYNC̶1; button.

      Press the ̶0;SYNC̶1; button located in the compartment for the SD card on the Wii console and release the button. Then press the ̶0;SYNC̶1; button located below the batteries inside the remote.

      Notice the blinking LED lights. Once the lights on the Wii remote stop blinking, the synchronization is complete. One remaining LED light will stop at a number on the remote pointing to its player order. Player numbers on the Wii remotes range from one to four.

    Reprogram Wii Remotes in One Time Mode

      Turn on the Wii console and supply power to the game console by pressing the ̶0;Power̶1; button. Ensure the Wii is on by checking for the green light located next to the power button.

      Press the ̶0;Home̶1; button on the Wii remote. The button is shaped like a house.

      Select ̶0;Wii Remote Settings.̶1; Notice the menu displayed on your television screen after pressing the home button. Use the Wii remote to select this choice to reprogram the settings for the Wii remotes.

      Select ̶0;Reconnect.̶1; Use the Wii remote to select the ̶0;Reconnect̶1; choice displayed on the television screen.

      Synchronize the remotes by pressing at the same time the ̶0;1̶1; and ̶0;2̶1; buttons located on the Wii remote. If you wish to synchronize more than one remote for the console, you should press and release the first remote̵7;s ̶0;1̶1; and ̶0;2̶1; buttons and move immediately to the next remote. Reprogram Wii remotes in the order you want the player numbers from one to four.

      Check the sync. The LED lights on the Wii remotes will blink during the sync. Once these stop blinking, the Wii has completed the connection. Player numbers will display on each remote.
