How to Play Wii on an LCD Monitor

Hooking up a Nintendo Wii to an LCD monitor is a very easy task. LCD monitors used primarily for computers typically do not have composite video input, which is the type of video output the Wii uses (RCA video). However, these monitors almost universally come with VGA input to accommodate most computers. A VGA converter makes the connection between your Wii and your LCD monitor possible.

      A common VGA input port.

Attach the VGA output of the VGA converter to the VGA input of the LCD monitor using the male-to-male VGA cable. The VGA port looks like an upside down trapezoid with three rows of holes that serve as connectors and will be clearly labeled.

Turn on the monitor and the Nintendo Wii. The video signal should flow from the Wii, through the converter, and into the LCD monitor. You will have to hook the red and white cables to a separate audio source if you want audio, as VGA can not transfer audio and most LCD monitors cannot produce audio.

Place the Wii's motion bar atop the LCD monitor. This motion bar detects the motion controls of the Wii that are required to play most games.
