Locate a compatible gamepad you wish to use. The Nintendo Gamecube corded controller is a sturdy, reliable and relatively cheap option for a gamepad. More specialized gamepads are available from third party vendors. See the Resources section of this article for links to online vendors of Wii-compatible gamepads.
Open the top compartment of your Wii by lifting up on the white hinged panel. This will reveal a series of input slots for game controllers and memory cards.
Insert the male end of your gamepad's cord into the controller slot labeled "1" on the top of the Wii.
Power on your Wii and select any game title to begin using your pad to control.
