Tips & Cheats for Wii Sports

Nintendo released the video game "Wii Sports" as a free disc with the release of its Nintendo Wii console in November 2006. The game comes in a small, cardboard case and is rated appropriate for players of all ages. "Wii Sports" players can create their own character and compete against others in a variety of sports--baseball, golf, bowling and boxing. Aside from the actual games, there are also side competitions related to each sport.
  1. Sporting Equipment and Venues

    • To get different sporting equipment and venues than the game initially offers, "Wii Sports" players must perform certain tasks. To unlock the silver, diamond bowling ball, players must reach Pro Level status. Other bowling ball colors are available to players who press any of the directional buttons on the Wii remote. After picking out characters for a tennis game, players must hold down the "2" button on the Wii controller and a different tennis court will appear. Players can use silver boxing gloves by beating the game's highest ranked opponent and then pressing down the "1" button on the Wii controller before competing again.

    Abilities

    • "Wii Sports" players are able to get new abilities in some of the events featured throughout the game. To unlock the ability to golf without seeing any of the maps and graphics that are generally featured on the screen, players must begin a round of golf, press the "2" button on the Wii remote, and then wait until the Course Selection menu appears. From here, players can try any course without graphics on the screen. Players are able to get a guaranteed strike in the last round of the Power Bowling side game by rolling their ball along the rail in a straight line.

    Crowd Reaction

    • While playing the bowling game in Nintendo's "Wii Sports," players are able to get different reactions out of the crowd by doing certain things during their turn. "Wii Sports" bowlers are able to get the crowd to laugh once they throw a ball on the incorrect lane. To do this, players must stand to the far left or right of the lane they are on and throw at the gutter with maximum speed. The ball will hop to the next lane and make the crowd laugh. Bowlers make the crowd gasp once they release the bowling ball in the middle of their backswing by letting go of the "B" button.
