How to Hook Up a Wii Component Video Cable

The Wii component connection is the best-looking connection available to the Wii. Unlike other consoles, the Wii is not a high-definition machine and is limited to 480p resolution and progressive scan. If you're using an HDTV with component inputs, the difference between the standard AV (audio/video) connection and the component connection is immediately noticeable. The Wii component cable is not included with the Wii.

Turn off the Wii. If connected, disconnect the Wii AV cables.

Connect the rectangular end of the Wii component cable into the Digital AV Out port on the back of the Wii. On the opposite end of the Wii component cable are five colored prongs that are separated by video (red, green and blue) and audio (red and white).

Set your TV to its "Component" video mode. Turn on the Wii. When you see and hear the Wii logo appear, that will indicate the connection was successful.
