How to Troubleshoot a Wii Rock Band Mic

The Nintendo Wii version of Rock Band offers the same rhythm-based music gameplay as other versions of the title, letting players play and sing along to popular hits of the past and present with a variety of plastic "instruments." The game includes a USB-connected microphone that lets players test their vocal accuracy as well as rhythmic drumming and strumming. Connecting the microphone requires a WiiMote controller to be synced to the mic, unlike other versions of the game that don't require a controller to be activated.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the mic from the USB port on the rear of the Wii. Check that the port and plug are free from obstructions, then reconnect the mic. Be sure to insert the plug securely, all the way into the port.

    • 2

Replace the batteries in your primary WiiMote. This controller is needed to connect the microphone so it must be in good working order.

    • 3

Hold the "1" and "2" buttons on the WiiMote to reconnect the controller; this also resets the synchronization between the console, controller and microphone. Select a song and check to see if the microphone is working now that this sync is complete.

    • 4

Eject the "Rock Band" game disc and clean it with rubbing alcohol or glass cleaner and a lint-free cleaning cloth. Wipe in straight lines from the disc center to edge--never in circular motions.

    • 5

Re-insert the game disc and try the microphone again. If the game still does not recognize the microphone, contact the game's support department, as your microphone may be damaged and in need of repair or replacement.
