How to Connect Mario Kart for Wii With WFC

"Mario Kart" is a series of go-kart racing video games featuring characters from the Mario series. "Mario Kart Wii" has the option to race against players from across the country over Wi-Fi, or more specifically, the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection". Setup for Mario Kart is simple if your Wii console is already configured for Internet. However, even if your Wii is not configured, connecting Mario Kart for WFC is a piece of cake.

  1. Configure Your Wii Console

      Configure the Internet settings for your Wii console. If you have already configured your Wii for Internet access, skip to Section 2. If not, start on the Wii menu screen. Click "Wii" in the bottom-left corner. Click "Wii Settings". Click the arrow on the right side of the screen to scroll to the next page. On Page 2 of settings, click "Internet". Click "Connection Settings".

      Add a connection. Click "Connection 1". Click "Wireless Connection". Click "Search for an Access Point". Click "OK" to view the found access points.

      Configure the connection. Choose the correct access point. If there are multiple access points listed, choose the one you recognize. Input the password or key if your access point is secured. Click "OK" to save the settings. Click "OK" again to test the connection.

      Update your Wii console. If your connection test is successful, your Wii might find system updates. Click "Yes" to update your software. Click "I Accept" after reading the notice. It might take several minutes to update.

    Configure Mario Kart Wii

      Navigate back to the Wii Menu screen. Insert the "Mario Kart Wii" game disc in the disc slot. Select the "Mario Kart Wii" channel, and click "Start". Select a license, or create a new one.

      Click "Nintendo WFC", and decide how many people will be playing.

      Choose between "Worldwide", "Regional", and "Friends". In both "Worldwide" and "Regional" competitions, Nintendo assigns competitors randomly based on location. In "Friends" competitions, you can race against people on your friend roster.

      Configure your game settings. Choose between "VS" and "Battle" for your preferred game mode. Then, choose your character, vehicle, and drift mode. Once you choose settings, Nintendo WFC will locate opponents. Vote on a course, and get ready to race.
