Save Game to Internal Memory
Insert the selected game disk into the Nintendo Wii, with the label side facing to the right.
Point your Wii remote at the screen and hover over the "Disc Channel" in the top left. Press the "A" button the Wii remote.
Point your remote at the screen and hover over "Start" at the bottom right, when the option appears. Press "A".
Press "A" on the "Wrist Strap Reminder" screen to advance to the opening game screen.
Press "A" to create a save file, if prompted (such as in Super Mario Galaxy). Choose an empty save slot and press "A" again. Note that some games prompt you to create a save file the first time you play, such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Other games automatically save your progress to the Wii, such as Wii Sports.
Play the game. Always stop the game by pressing the "+" button on the Wii remote and selecting the main menu. Save the game, if prompted. Note that exiting to the main menu ensures that your game saves.
Copy Saved Data to SD Card
Open the SD Card slot cover on the front of the Nintendo Wii, in the center.
Insert the SD memory card into the slot so that the label on the SD card faces toward the game disk slot.
Press the SD memory card in until it audibly "clicks."
Power on the Nintendo Wii by pressing the power button on the console or the power button located at the top of the Wii remote.
Point your Wii remote at the screen and hover over the "Wii Settings" option in the bottom left portion of the screen. Press the "A" button the Wii remote.
Hover over "Data Management" and press "A". Select "Save Data" and then select the "Wii" tab.
Choose the file that you wish to copy to the SD memory card and highlight it by pressing "A". Select the "Copy" option, then confirm that you want to copy the saved data by selecting "Yes."
