How to Clean the Wii Game Box

Ideally, a Wii game box should be kept in a sheltered, dry spot where it is safe from dust and debris. When stored correctly, the surface should only need minimal dusting and cleaning. The disc slot also gathers dust and debris. If you begin to receive disc read errors, clean the inside of the slot with the Wii's lens cleaning kit. That is the only cleaning kit approved for use on Nintendo products.

Instructions

    • 1

      Unplug the Wii game box.

    • 2

Wipe the surface down with a clean, barely damp cloth. Allow the console to dry completely before continuing.

    • 3

Plug the Wii back in. Press the eject button to eject any discs that may be in there.

    • 4

Apply two to three drops of the cleaning fluid (included in your kit) onto the cleaning pad on the front surface of the lens cleaning disk (also included in your kit).

    • 5

Insert the cleaning disc into the console's disc slot. The blue lines on the face of the cleaning disc should be parallel to the disc slot. The cleaning pad will face left if the console is in the vertical position. The cleaning pad will face down if the console is in the horizontal position. Wait five seconds before moving to step 6.

    • 6

Move the handle of the lens cleaning disk back and forth (not more than roughly 3/4 inch) 10 to 20 times. Move the handle up and down if the console is in a vertical position and side to side if it is in a horizontal position. Return the handle to the center of the disc slot.

    • 7

Press the "eject" button and allow the machine to eject the lens cleaning disc. Do not pull it out forcefully.
