GameCube
The GameCube was Nintendo's successor to the Nintendo 64. It became Nintendo's first 128-bit console and was rivaled by Sony's PlayStation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox. The GameCube's small, box-like shape and mini-DVD sized discs made it a unique console.
Wii
The Wii became a phenomenon throughout the world because of the unique features of the console's wireless, motion-sensitive controller or wand. Though Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 are its chief rivals, the Wii is said to serve a much different demographic.
Backwards compatibility
GameCube controllers can be used to play GameCube games on the Wii. The Wii remote, however, cannot be used to play GameCube games. Thirty million Wii consoles have been sold in the U.S. as of mid-2010, according to Nintendo.
