How to Troubleshoot Wii Games

The Nintendo Wii proved a big hit with consumers after its 2006 release, as young and old, casual and hardcore gamers alike developed a liking for the new system with the unique motion controls. The Wii plays game discs that are the same shape and size as compact discs. Games are started by selecting the "Disc Channel" from the Wii Menu. If you have problems playing a game you can take some troubleshooting steps to help alleviate the problem.

      Make sure the disc is clean. If the disc does not play, eject it from the Wii and inspect it. Nintendo recommends using a soft cloth to wipe a dirty disc. Wipe it from the center to the outside and do not use a circular motion.

      Eject the disc and then turn the power off. Turn the console back on and re-insert the disc. Try playing the game again.

      Check to ensure your have a disc that will work with the Wii version you own. Consoles sold in the United States will work with discs made for use in the U.S., Mexico, Canada and other Latin American countries. Discs made for countries in Europe or Asia will not work in Wiis made for North America. The countries the disc will work in is listed on the bottom of the disc label.
