Power Requirements for Wii

Like all electronics, the Nintendo Wii uses electrical power to supply energy necessary to run the device. Nintendo has specific power requirements necessary for the proper function of your Wii. These requirements are established to prevent electrical outages and to protect you from electrocution.
  1. Wii's Power Cord

    • Your Wii requires 120 volts of electricity to operate. Using the power cord included with your Wii, users can connect into any AC electrical outlet or power plug. It is recommended that Wii Owners use only Wii power cords because they are calibrated to power the your system.

    Wii Power Warnings

    • Avoid using your Wii during a thunderstorm, as this may cause a power surge that may damage your Wii. Users also should avoid using AC power adapters with broken wiring. Owners should make sure that AC power cords are correctly inserted into the wall and into the Wii. If you decide to unplug your AC power cord, pull on the plug, not the cord for proper removal.

    Troubleshooting Your Wii's Power Supply

    • According to Nintendo, "resetting the AC adapter fixes most problems." Resetting the Wii requires that you unplug the AC adapter on both ends and wait two minutes to allow the adapter to properly reset. Once two minutes have passed, you may reconnect your Wii.
