How to Recognize a Dual-Layer Wii

Starting with Super Smash Brothers Brawl (SSBB), Nintendo started utilizing dual-layer discs for some of their games. However, not all of their games are dual layer. The games that are dual layer are usually the bigger game releases of Nintendo's headline series, such as Metroid, Mario and Zelda. Dual-layer discs have twice the amount of storage as a regular disc. The dual-layer discs, therefore, allow the game developers to make bigger and better games for gamers.

Instructions

    • 1

Research the game's original release date. This is done with a simple search on the game. If the game released before March 9, 2008, then the game is a single-layer disc. March 9, 2008 is the day Super Smash Brothers Brawl released.

    • 2

Turn the disc over to view the back of the disc.

    • 3

Look at the color of the disc. If the disc is gold, then it is a dual-layer disc. If the disc is silver, then the disc is a single layer.
