How to Open a Nintendo Wii

The Wii console is Nintendo's current generation video game system. As with previous generations of consoles, players have discovered how to disassemble the system and view its core components to make modifications. To increase the visual appeal of the system, Nintendo chose to hide many of the screws that hold it together under rubber pads. This also creates the illusion that the console cannot be taken apart. However, when the screws are located, disassembly is straightforward.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the Wii so the bottom is in view and unscrew the Phillips head screw. This will expose the battery tray. Remove the battery tray from the system. Remove the rubber pad near the tray and the thee square stickers to expose three Phillips screws and two tri-wing screws. Remove the screws.

Remove the two rubber feet and two stickers on the side of the system that has the face plate. Two tri-wing screws will be in the holes where the rubber was. Remove these, along with the two tri-wing screws holding the faceplate down.

Flip the Wii right-side up and slide the two socket covers out. This will expose three Phillips screws. Remove the screws, and pull the faceplate off the console after disconnecting the red and black wiring.

Remove the back plate from the controller area, and remove the two Phillips and two tri-wing screws. Take off the right side cover. Remove the four screws that hold the DVD reader in place, and remove the two wires from the back of the DVD reader. The Wii is now completely open.
