How to Program a Wii Game System to Play on an Analog TV

The Nintendo Wii video game console might be designed to operate on HDTV sets, but that doesn't mean the console can't operate on older TVs as well. The system can operate on any television--analog or digital. When first connected, the machine will automatically detect your television, allowing you to run a setup menu that will configure the console to run optimally on your television.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the AV cable supplied with the Wii into the back of the system and connect the yellow plug to the "Video In" port in the back of your television. Connect the red and white plugs to the color-coded "Audio In" ports. If your television only has one "Audio In" port, connect either the red or white plug to this.

    • 2

Turn on the Wii and select your television's "Video" or "AV Rear" channel. Press the "1" and "2" buttons on your WiiMote to activate the controller.

    • 3

Select the Wii Setup menu by pointing your WiiMote at the "Wii" button in the lower-left corner of the screen and pressing "A." Choose "Screen," and select "Widescreen Settings."

    • 4

Select "Standard TV" and choose "Confirm."

    • 5

Choose "Screen Resolution" and select "Standard TV." Choose "Confirm."
