Specifications for a Wii

Nintendo released the Wii video game console in November 2006. Rather than attempting to design a system on the cutting edge of technology, Nintendo focused on making an affordable machine that would appeal to as broad an audience as possible.

    • The Wii's main CPU is an IBM PowerPC 729MHz processor, codenamed "Broadway." Its 243MHz graphics processor, codenamed "Hollywood," was developed by ATI.

    Memory and Storage

    • With 24 MB of main 1T-SRAM and 64 MB of external 1T-SRAM, the Wii has a total of 88 MB of system memory. It includes an additional 3 MB of texture memory on the graphics processor. Internal storage capacity is 512 MB of internal flash memory. The Wii also recognizes SD memory cards up to 2 GB in size.

    Audio and Video Output

    • The Wii's multi-port video output supports composite, component and S-video output. It features analog stereo audio output, with Dolby Pro Logic II support.

    Ports and Networking

    • In addition to its audio and video outputs, the Wii also includes two USB 2.0 ports, one SD memory card slot, one input jack for the Wii sensor bar, four GameCube controller ports and two GameCube memory card slots.
