How to Hit the Splitter in Wii Sports

Developed and produced by Nintendo for the Wii game console, Wii Sports is a game that includes five basic sports simulations, including baseball. The baseball simulation game features a variety of pitches common to baseball, including a split-fingered fastball, or "splitter," which has a curving motion to it. By improving your stance, swinging angle and training, you may be able to not only hit a splitter in Wii sports, but hit it often.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand in a sideways position mimicking the position of your Mii on the screen. Turn to the same side as your Mii, place your feet a little closer than shoulder-width apart and bend your knees slightly.

    • 2

Hold the Wiimote perpendicular to the ground, with one hand on top of the other. If you are right-handed, place your right hand above your left hand, and if you are left-handed, reverse the position. Make sure the Wiimote buttons are facing you as you hold the bat.

    • 3

Hit the minus (-) button on the controller before the first pitch. This will allow you to take practice swings, which will help you get used to the timing of the swing. When you have finished practicing, press the minus button again and prepare to bat.

    • 4

Swing the bat when the ball is near the back of the plate rather than when it is approaching. You should hit the ball just as it's about to reach the plate on fastballs, but the game's programming favors a later swing for breaking balls, including the splitter.
