How to Troubleshoot a Nintendo Wii Remote Control

The Nintendo Wii console premiered in 2006. Of many notable attributes of the console, the Wii Remote differs from every other video game controller in the current generation of video game consoles. The motion-based controller provides the ability to make corresponding movements with video game characters. Like many devices, occasional issues may call for troubleshooting the Wii console. The Wii Remote is no different, as specific troubleshooting steps will aid in problem plaguing connections and gameplay.

      Use the following troubleshooting items when experiencing any issue with the device. Secure the connections between the sensor bar and the Wii. Make sure the bar is centered above or below your television set. Make sure you are between 3 and 10 feet from the sensor bar. Switch out the batteries in the remote for new ones. Check to make sure nothing is blocking the sensor from reaching your Wii Remote. Make sure no infra-red light devices or radio signals are interfering immediately with your signal.

      Press the power button to turn the Wii off if you are still having issues after following the initial list of troubleshooting steps. Unplug the device and wait a few minutes. Insert the plug back in and turn the Wii on. Press the "Sync" button under the front flap of the Wii when the "Health and Safety" screen comes up. Hold the button for 15 seconds. Press the "Sync" button underneath the battery cover on the remote. Swiftly press the "Sync" button on the console again. Repeat the "Sync" process to add additional remotes.

      Check the remote for jamming and smudges if the problem persists. Find the "Sensitivity" menu in the Wii Menu to align the connection.
