How to Play ROMs on the Wii

One of the more positive aspects of the Nintendo Wii home gaming console is that gamers have the ability to play classic Nintendo games, as well as games on other systems, on the Wii console. These games are generally played using the Wii&'s software emulator, and are contained on small files known as "ROMs." In order to purchase ROMs to play on your Wii, you only need to know how to use the Wii&'s "Shop Channel" correctly.

  Turn your Wii on. Select the "Wii Shop Channel" option on the Wii&'s main menu. This option appears in the upper right hand corner of the main menu.

  Select the "Virtual Console" option in the Wii shop channel menu to bring up a list of classic games you can play on your Wii. You can browse these games by title, popularity, and system.

  Select the game you wish to download, the select the "Download" option to begin downloading the game. If you do not have enough Wii points on your account, you will be asked to add more. Use the information on your debit, credit or Wii Points card to add more points to your account and continue the download.

  Return to the Wii main menu after the game has downloaded. The game will be available for play as an option on the main menu.
