How to Convert a PAL Wii Game to NTSC

The Nintendo Wii video game console is designed to output video for the different analog video standards used in the United States and Europe. The video output format of a game is especially important, since the Wii is designed to work on standard definition televisions, unlike the other major game consoles on the market, which are designed to work on high definition (HD) televisions. Analog televisions in the United States use the NTSC standard; they use the PAL standard in Europe. A Wii game encoded for PAL can be played on an NTSC television with the proper video converter.

Things You'll Need

  • PAL to NTSC video system converter

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the Wii AV cable into the port labeled "AV Multi Out" on the back of your Wii. It is the largest port on the back of the Wii.

    • 2

Insert the RCA cables on the other end of the Wii AV cable into the ports labeled "Input" on the PAL to NTSC converter box. The colored RCA plugs should be matched to the colored ports on the converter box.

    • 3

Plug the male/male RCA cable into the colored ports labeled "Output" on the converter box. Again, the colored RCA plugs should be matched to the colored ports on the converter box.

    • 4

Plug the other end of the RCA cable into one of the sets of ports labeled “Input,” either on the front or rear of your NTSC analog TV.

    • 5

Turn on your Wii and your TV, and play as usual; the video conversion takes place automatically within the PAL to NTSC video system converter.
