How to Use a GameCube Controller with Mario Kart for the Wii

"Mario Kart" for the Wii is part of the franchise's long history that began on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Many players feel more comfortable using the Gamecube controller versus the Wii remote for "Kart" because the Gamecube controller provides better handling and a general easier setup. The switch requires you to simply plug in the controller and learn the controls.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door on top of the Wii and connect the Gamecube controller into one of the four Gamecube ports.

    • 2

Insert the "Mario Kart" Wii disc. Use the Wii remote to click on "Play game."

    • 3

Use the Gamecube controller's analog stick to move up and down and to highlight any selections in "Mario Kart." Use the "A" button to select anything. Press the "B" button to go back one step.

    • 4

Press "A" to accelerate once in game. Use the analog stick to steer, "R" to break, "L" to use an item, the directional pad to do tricks, "B" to jump and "X" and "Z" to look behind. Press the "Start" button to pause the game and access the options, and to restart or exit the race.
