Instructions
Log in to your router by typing "192.168.1.1" into the address bar in your browser's search field. When prompted, type in your user name and password to log in.
Click on the link to your router's "Basic Setup" page and search the page for the term "subnet mask." The router assigns this number to an IP address to determine the subnet it belongs to. For most routers this value defaults to 255.255.255.0. Also, find your router's service set identifier (SSID) on the page, which acts as the name of your network.
Click on the link to the "Router Status" page, then find the two domain name system (DNS) addresses. Also, find the router's maximum transmission unit (MTU) value. This value determines the maximum size of data packets that may transmit through the router. On modern routers, this value is often set to 1,500.
Click on the link to the "Applications and Gaming" tab and then on the "DMZ" link. Set the DMZ value to an IP address of your choosing.
Turn on your Wii and click on the "Wii" button in the bottom left to access its system options. Click on "Wii Settings." Click the right arrow once and click on "Internet," then "Connection Settings." Choose one of the three connections and click "Wireless Connection," then "Manual Setup." Under "SSID," enter your router's SSID.
Click the right arrow, and under "Type of Security," choose the password key your router uses.
Click the right arrow; under "Auto-Obtain IP Address," click "No." Click on "Advanced Settings," and input the IP address you chose for the DMZ under "IP Address," 255.255.255.0 under "Subnet Mask" and 192.168.1.1 under "Default Router." Click "Confirm."
Click the right arrow; under "Auto-Obtain DNS," click "No." Click on "Advanced Settings," and input the two DNS addresses you obtained earlier. Click "Confirm."
Click the right arrow twice, and input the MTU Value under "MTU Value." Click "Save" in the bottom right corner of your screen. The Wii will automatically test your connection, and you should be ready to use your Wii on the internet.
