How to Choose the Best Height for a TV With a Wii

The Nintendo Wii is a video game console that was released to the general public in 2006. What sets it apart from most other video game consoles is its motion-activated controls, which give a more realistic feel when playing games such as tennis, bowling and racing. The way the Wii works is by using a sensor bar to pick up a Bluetooth signal sent by the controller. Where you end up putting sensor bar may rely on a myriad of factors, including TV height. There are several things to take into consideration when choosing a height for a TV with a Wii.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the objects in the room, such as coffee tables, ottomans and other furniture, that will stand in the path of the Wii sensor bar and you. Because the Wii uses a remote control and sensor bar to send and receive signals, you'll want the television to be higher than the tallest object in the room that stands between you and your TV.

    • 2

Look at the width of the TV. Newer flat screens can be extremely thin. The Wii allows an option for you to place the sensor bar above or below the TV. If your TV is going to be really thin, it might be difficult to put the sensor bar on top of it. That mean you'll only be left with the option to place the sensor bar at the bottom of the TV. Tube TVs will allow easy placement of the sensor bar above the TV. Again, make sure, if you're getting a flat-screen, to have the the bottom of the TV higher than the highest object that stands in the way of the TV.

Consider getting a TV mount. Most modern TV mounts are built specifically for flat-screen TVs. This will give you extra height while creating storage for the Wii, its sensor bar, remote controls and anything else you want to connect to your TV.

    • 4

Avoid mounting a TV to a wall. Not only will this leave you with no storage space for the Wii and its sensor bar, but, if placed too high, it may become uncomfortable to play games while looking up.

    • 5

Get an adjustable-height TV stand or mount. Those devices will allow you to raise and lower the height of your TV. That will also allow you to adjust the height of the TV if you plan on redecorating or moving furniture and will allow you to play the Wii no matter how your room is set up.
