How to Hook Up GameCube Controllers on Wii

Connect Nintendo GameCube controllers to your Nintendo Wii console so that you can play older GameCube games. You can also use the older controllers for a handful of Wii titles. For example, Super Smash Bros. Brawl lets you use the GameCube controller, so that fans of the series can retain the old control scheme.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the GameCube controller socket cover if you normally play with your Nintendo Wii in a horizontal position. Stand your Nintendo Wii upright. Squeeze lightly on the sides of the console near where the socket cover joins with the console. When you hear a click, pull the cover straight up and remove it from the console.

    • 2

Simply flip open the GameCube controller socket cover if you normally play with your Nintendo Wii in a vertical position.

    • 3

Note the half-moon shape of the plug on the end of the Nintendo GameCube controller cord and line it up with the socket on your Nintendo Wii. Push the plug into the socket until it clicks softly in place. Be sure to connect the controllers in order; the socket closest to the front of the Wii is for player one.

    • 4

Power on your Nintendo Wii as normal. Do not touch the GameCube controller analog stick or C-stick while the Wii is powering on.

    • 5

Start the GameCube game or GameCube controller-compatible Wii game of your choice. Again, do not touch the analog or C-stick while the game is starting up.
