How to Resurface Wii Games

Nintendo optical discs are proprietary discs manufactured by Nintendo for the GameCube and Wii video game consoles. A Nintendo Wii optical disc is the same size as a CD or DVD, but works only with the Nintendo Wii game system. Like CDs and DVDs, Wii game discs are prone to scratches that can cause games to skip, freeze or, in some cases, stop working altogether. Cleaning or resurfacing a game disc can sometimes help to restore a Wii game to a playable condition.

Instructions

  Hold your Wii disc upside down in your hand and use a damp paper towel to wipe the Wii disc using straight strokes. Do not wipe the game disc in a circular motion.

  Allow the Wii game disc to dry for a few minutes before inserting it back into your Wii. If you're still experiencing issues with your game, continue to Step 3.

  Locate a service that can resurface your game disc if a simple cleaning doesn't work. There are several services online that will resurface Wii game discs, including Skippy Disc and Extreme Mods. In addition, physical game stores like Game Crazy and Family Video can also resurface Wii discs (see Resources).
