Things You'll Need
Instructions
Ensure that your Nintendo Wii is located in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area free from dust or direct sunlight. Wii disc read errors can result when the console is operating in sub-optimal conditions.
Check that you are inserting the disc into the Wii in the right way. It is possible to insert the disc upside-down. Ensure that the game disc slot is above the machine's buttons, and that you are inserting the disc label-side up.
Disconnect and reconnect all peripherals and accessories from the Wii. Third-party controllers such as steering wheels or non-Nintendo branded WiiMotes can cause the Wii to freeze during game-play, particularly during fast-action games like "Mario Kart Wii." Try running the game using only official Nintendo-branded controllers and accessories.
Clean the "Mario Kart Wii" game disc using a clean, static-free cloth sprayed lightly with glass cleaner. Wipe in straight lines from the center to edge of the disc, avoiding circular motions because these can scratch the disc.
Clean the Wii's internal lens using a DVD lens cleaning disc or Nintendo's own lens cleaning kit. Avoid using CD lens cleaners because these contain rough brushes unsuitable for the Wii's sensitive DVD lens.
Try other games in your Wii to ascertain whether the problem lies with your Mario Kart Wii game disc or the console. If other games work, the disc is defective and may need to be professionally resurfaced. If no games will run on your Nintendo Wii, contact Nintendo's customer support department to arrange a repair or replacement.
