How to Stream Wii ISO

At the time of this writing, the only way to stream Wii ISOs onto your Wii is using a mod called FlatMii. FlatMii is a piece of hardware that connects your computer directly into the Wii hardware and allows you to play your Wii ISOs on the Wii from your computer. Because this bypasses the disk drive, you can use FlatMii to stream ISOs even on a Wii with a broken or missing drive. FlatMii is not endorsed by Nintendo and installing it will invalidate the warranty on your machine. The Wii can be used normally by disconnecting the FlatMii USB cable. The FlatMii can be purchased from a list of dealers on their websites. The FlatMii website can be found in the Resources section.

Instructions

  1. Wii Disassembly

    • 1

Unplug your Wii and flip up the flaps on the side of the Wii. Remove them by pushing on the plastic joint that connects them and pulling away.

    • 2

Turn the Wii so that you are looking at the back where the barcode is. Scratch off the three circular stickers to reveal the screws underneath.

    • 3

Insert a flat-headed screw driver into the corners of the small rubber plugs on the back of the machine and pry all the plugs out.

    • 4

Unscrew the four Phillips head screws from the back. Then unscrew the two tri-wing screws.

    • 5

Flip your Wii so that you are looking down at the top of it, if you had it laying flat. Remove the two stickers from the front-top of the machine and the two rubber plugs from the back-top of the machine. This will reveal four tri-wing screws; unscrew these screws.

    • 6

Flip your Wii so that the black side is facing you. Remove the three Phillips head screws. Then, remove the black cover. This will reveal two more Phillips head screws and two tri-wing screws. Unscrew these.

    • 7

Remove the faceplate with the power button slowly until you see the small wire that connects it to the machine. Unplug this wire and set aside.

    • 8

Flip the Wii so that you are looking down on the top of it again. Gently lift the cover towards yourself to open the machine.

    • 9

Lift up on the metal plate you can see now. Put this aside.

    • 10

Unscrew the four screws you can see.

    • 11

Lift gently on the drive in front of you. It has a small ribbon connected to it. Rotate a quarter turn counterclockwise and flip the drive over. You are now ready to begin installing the FlatMii.

    Installing the FlatMii

    • 12

Unplug the ribbon and the thin white cord next to it and place the drive with the board up to the side.

    • 13

Apply the supplied sticker to the bottom of the FlatMii.

    • 14

Place a few one inch strips of electrical tape over the drive plate. This is the metal part near the drive.

    • 15

Set the FlatMii down on top of the double-sided tape and press gently to affix it to the drive plate.

    • 16

Insert the supplied flat ribbon into the drive connector. This is the part you pulled the first flat ribbon out of. Do this with the blue side up.

    • 17

Pass the other end of the ribbon under the FlatMii and connect the end into the FlatMii's connector labeled "DVD;" blue side up.

    • 18

Reconnect the thin white cable you disconnected before and place the end of the first ribbon you disconnected into the connector on the FlatMii labeled "Wii;" black side up.

    • 19

Insert the four-pin cable that came with the FlatMii kit so that the "up" label is facing upwards and lay the drive back on top of the machine.

    • 20

Reassemble your Wii, but leave the open end of the four-pin cable dangling outside the Wii case.

    • 21

Open the four-pin connector holder and attach to the open end of the cable and close the holder.

    • 22

Plug the USB part of the connector into your computer. You can now stream Wii ISOs from your computer into your Wii. Unplug the USB to use the Wii as usual with disks.
