How to Back Up Wii Games in OS X

A Wii game disc can be rendered unplayable if the optical surface suffers damage. Making a backup of the Wii game disc you legally own on a Mac running the OS X operating system requires a DVD copy program. Many of these are available for use with OS X, and some are free or free to use for a limited time. You can save the Wii backup file or burn it to a blank recordable DVD to use instead of the original.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a DVD copy program to the desktop, for example, the trial version of DVD Copy for Mac (see the link in Resources). Double-click on the file when it has downloaded. Follow the menu commands to install the video converter program onto the Mac's hard drive.

    • 2

Press the "Eject" button on the keyboard to eject the DVD drive's disc tray or insert the Wii game disc in the DVD slot on the Mac.

    • 3

Insert the Wii game disc in the DVD driver.

    • 4

Wait for the icon of the Wii game disc to appear on the Mac's desktop.

    • 5

Double-click on the icon of the DVD copy program to launch it.

    • 6

Press the "Full disc mode" button on the DVD copy program's main screen.

Select the name of the DVD drive from the "Source" drop down menu on the DVD copy program's main screen.

    • 8

Select "Desktop" from the "Target" drop down menu on the DVD copy program's main screen.

    • 9

Select "Options" from the drop down menu beneath "File" at the top of the screen.

    • 10

Click on the "Format" tab at the top of the window that appears.

    • 11

Select "Data" from the "File format" drop down menu beneath the "Format" tab.

    • 12

Select "ISO" from the list of choices presented in the "Type" drop down menu beneath "File format." Click on "OK" to close the window.

    • 13

Press the "Start" or "Go" button at the lower right corner of the DVD copy program's main screen. Wait as a progress bar appears and fills.
