How to Use Wii Freeloader Disc With Copy to Import Games

The Wii Freeloader is a disc created for the Nintendo Wii that allows users to play imported games without having to modify hardware inside the manchine. However, you must have an older model Wii that has not been updated above firmware version 3.2. The Wii Freeloader will not work with the 3.3 firmware update of June 2008. Check your firmware version to determine if your Wii is compatible with Freeloader.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Check Wii Firmware Version

    • 1

Turn on your Wii and click the round ̶0;Wii̶1; button in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. This will open up Wii Options.

    • 3

Review the firmware version number on the Wii Settings menu. It will be located next to the ̶0;Wii System Settings̶1; header. If you have a version number higher than 3.2, you will not be able to use the Freeloader disc to play import games.

Turn on your Wii with the Freeloader disc in the console.

    • 5

Allow the Wii to read the Freeloader disc. You will hear the disc spinning in the drive.

Remove the Freeloader disc once the drive stops spinning and insert your imported game. The imported game should now load and play like a regular Wii game.
