List of Mario Games for the Wii

"Mario Party 8"

• Nintendo released "Mario Party 8" for the Wii in May 2007. "Mario Party 8" challenges players to compete in various mini-games against one another in order to move spaces on a themed board. The goal of "Mario Party 8" is to obtain more stars than competitors. Stars are earned by purchasing them, getting them through bonuses and taking them from other players. The characters featured in "Mario Party 8" have also appeared in other popular Nintendo games. Among those featured are Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach and Toad.

"New Super Mario Bros."

• New Super Mario Bros. was released by Nintendo for the Wii in November 2009. Much like earlier Mario games for the first Nintendo system and the Super Nintendo, "New Super Mario Bros." requires players to scroll from side-to-side in order to progress in levels. Players can compete as either Mario or Luigi, and the game allows for as many as four players to participate. Players can take advantage of new items that did not appear in earlier games, such as a hat with a propeller that allows players to hover above the ground.

"Super Mario Galaxy"

• "Super Mario Galaxy" came out for the Wii in November 2007. In "Super Mario Galaxy," players travel through different galaxies in order to find power stars to rescue Princess Peach from the evil villain Bowser and his child. All of the galaxies in the game contain multiple levels with bonus areas that can be reached. Once Mario finds enough power stars, he can fuel a ship to reach the galaxy where Princess Peach is located.

"Mario Kart Wii"

• "Mario Kart Wii" hit store shelves in April 2008 exclusively for Wii. Much like previous Mario Kart games available for the Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, and Nintendo GameCube, Mario Kart Wii lets players use different Nintendo characters to race around multiple tracks. Players can choose between using the traditional Wii controller and a wheel-shaped controller attachment to move their characters throughout the course. Some characters are unavailable at the beginning of "Mario Kart Wii" and must be unlocked by completing different challenges.
