How To Sync Wireless GameCube Remotes on the Wii

Nintendo's Wii console has a feature known as "backwards-compatibility." This feature allows users to play GameCube games on their Nintendo Wii, using GameCube controllers. The WaveBird Wireless Controller is a wireless GameCube controller that is fully compatible with the Nintendo Wii.

  • Nintendo WaveBird Wireless GameCube controller

Instructions

      Turn off your Nintendo Wii and remove the controller socket cover. This cover can be found on the top of the Wii when the Wii is sitting in the Wii stand plate.

      Insert the WaveBird wireless receiver into the first open controller slot on the Nintendo Wii. Set the wireless receiver's channel to "1" using the channel selector on the front of the receiver.

      Open the WaveBird controller battery compartment. Place two fresh AA batteries into the battery compartment on the back of the WaveBird controller. Close the compartment, then use the channel selector on the bottom of the WaveBird to set its channel to 1.

      Turn on your Nintendo Wii and load any game that is compatible with GameCube controllers. All GameCube games should work, as well as some Wii games. You can tell if a Wii game is compatible by checking the back of its game box for the GameCube controller icon.

      Flip the power switch on your WaveBird controller to "On." It will automatically connect to the receiver, and you should be able to begin playing immediately.
