Modding your Nintendo Wii game console in order to backup games is a considerable modification and requires opening the Wii and leaving it open. This is because the optical mod circuit board is too large for the console. Instead of modifying the actual console, users instead can backup their games on a simple SD card that can be purchased at any major retailer.

      Insert your SD card into the designated slot on the front of your Wii console.

      Power on your television and your Wii console. Make sure the Wii menu is visible on your TV set.

      Select the "Wii Systems" icon on the main menu.

      Chose the "Data Management" option from the Wii Systems menu.

      Select the "Save Data" option.

      Select "Wii" as the source of your saved data.

      Chose the "Copy" option to backup games played on your Wii. Select "Yes" to verify that you want to copy your games, then select "Copy to SD Card." Your Wii games will now backup to an SD card without modding.
