How to Get the Microphone to Work on Rock Band for Wii

The Nintendo Wii version of Harmonix's Rock Band game brings all the same perks as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions: a wide variety of songs, a full complement of plastic musical instruments and a high-res graphical sideshow for the game's tests of rhythmic skill. The only sticking point for some players is connecting the game's microphone peripheral. Because of the way the console's controllers connect, the microphone won't work unless a Wii Remote is activated at startup.

     Connect the microphone to the USB hub supplied with Rock Band.

     Connect the USB hub to the USB port in the back of the Wii.

     Press the "1" and "2" buttons on the Nintendo Wii Remote to activate the controller and turn on the console.

     Insert the Rock Band game disc and use the Nintendo Wii Remote to select Rock Band.

     Wait for the game to load, then use the Wii Remote to select a game mode. The game will begin with the microphone activated in the band's "Player 1" slot.
