Hockey Games for the Wii

The Nintendo Wii, with its unique motion sensor gameplay, is ideal for sports games. Hockey fans will be happy to know that besides using their Wii-mote controller to be a quarterback, box, or swing a golf club, they can pick up a virtual hockey stick and hit the ice. The Wii offers several ways to do this.
  1. NHL 2k Series

    • The first and best source for hockey on the Wii is NHL 2k series by 2k Sports. It is the only licensed hockey series of games available on the Wii. This means it's the only hockey game for Wii bearing the NHL's name and consent, allowing Wii gamers to play using their favorite teams and players. The game is released by year and aims to create as realistic an interpretation of the NHL as possible, which lends the series greater depth but also difficulty.

    Kidz Sports Ice Hockey

    • The Kidz Sports game, designed by Destineer and released in 2008, presents a simpler alternative to 2k for younger players. It takes goes without strategy and detail for simplicity and intuitive, welcoming game play for the less fanatic who would still like to try their hand at the puck.

    Hockey All Star Shoot Out

    • "Hockey All Star Shoot Out" is WiiWare available through the Wii Shop channel on the Wii home screen. It can be downloaded by connecting the Wii to the Internet and adding Wii points with a valid credit card. Released in 2008 and published by Big Blue Bubble Inc, Shoot Out is a balance between the 2k series and the Kidz Sport game. Shoot Out functions merely as a set of skill challenges that are realistic without being as in depth as a full hockey game.
