How to Connect a Wii Directly to a Modem

Nintendo calls its online service the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection," or Nintendo WFC, but this doesn't mean you need to have a wireless router to enjoy your favorite Nintendo games online. Hook your Nintendo Wii directly to a modem, and you can play games like "Mario Kart Wii" or "The Conduit" against your friends in online competition. You also can browse the Internet, check weather forecasts or download classic games in the Wii Shop Channel.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off your Nintendo Wii.

    • 2

Connect the Wii LAN Adapter to one of the two USB ports on the back of your console.

    • 3

Use an Ethernet cable to connect your Wii LAN adapter to your broadband modem. If your modem only has one port, you must unplug your computer from the modem while you use your Wii online.

    • 4

Power on your Nintendo Wii and select the "Wii" icon.

    • 5

Select "Wii Settings," then tap the "+" button once to scroll to the second screen and select "Internet."

    • 6

Select "Connection" settings, then choose an available connection (probably the first one if you have not used your Wii online before).

    • 7

Select "Wired Connection," then "OK." Wait while the Wii establishes a connection.
