Frames and Balls
Each frame includes two chances to knock down 10 pins. Each pin knocked down counts as one point. There are no points for balls rolled into the gutters found on either side of the lane. If a bowler knocks down all pins in the first roll, the player earns a strike. It's a spare if the bowler is able to knock down all of the remaining pins on the second roll. Strikes and spares are classified as marks and reward the bowler with additional scoring bonuses. The total of all 10 frames becomes the bowler's point total for the game.
Strike Bonus
When a strike is scored, the number of pins earned on the bowler's subsequent two rolls is added to the strike frame. For example, if a bowler throws a strike on the first frame, then gets a total of eight pins in the second frame, the eight pins count both for the second frame and get added to the 10 from the strike. In this instance, the bowler's running score would be 18 for the first frame, and 26 in the second.
Spare Bonus
If a bowler rolls a spare, only the first ball of the next frame gets added to the score. So, a spare in the first frame followed by a seven on the first ball in second would make the first frame score 17.
Tenth Frame Bonus
A mark in the final frame earns a bonus ball and the chance for extra points. If the first ball in the tenth is a strike, the bowler gets two more rolls. A spare earns the bowler one bonus ball. The minimum number of balls rolled in a perfect game is 12. This includes one strike for each frame, plus the two bonus balls in the 10th.
Turkey
A turkey signifies three consecutive strikes and would give the bowler 30 points in the first of those three frames. There are no extra points for it in "Wii Bowling" but it does lead to a minor celebration of a bowler's achievement. The word "turkey" will be displayed underneath the strike banner notification.
