How to Format a SanDisk for the Wii

Although other gaming systems use robust hard drives to store game information and data, the Wii game console does not have a hard drive, and instead has a small amount of internal memory. However, if you have filled up your internal memory and need more space for your files, you can expand your Wii's memory. However, in order to use a SanDisk (SD) memory card with the Wii, it must be formatted to work with the console.

Instructions

Insert the SD card into an SD card slot (or adapter) on a computer and back up any content already on the SD card. Then format the card to remove all data. To format the card, go to "My Computer," highlight the card and then right-click and select "Format" from the sub-menu. Note: if you have purchased a new SD card to use with your Wii, you do not need to perform this step, as the card is already ready to be formatted with the console.

Open the memory card door on the front of your Wii console and insert the SD card, label out, into the long memory card slot. You should hear it "click" into place.

Start up your Wii console and then go to the "Data Management" area. You should see a tab that says "SD Card" When you select it, you will see the circular "System Busy" icon. Then the SD card tab will come into view. You will see a bunch of blank boxes. This means your SD card has been formatted successfully.
