How to Sync a Retro Wireless Controller to a Wii

The Retro Wireless Controller for the Nintendo Wii is a controller made by Datel. It is intended as a replacement for the Classic Controller made by Nintendo. This controller is most commonly used for Virtual Console games, but also is used by a few games not made for the Wii remote, such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl. The most noticeable difference between the two controllers is that the Retro Wireless Controller does not need to be plugged into the Wii console or a Wii remote to be used. This controller is designed to sync using the same method as the Wii remote.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cover over the SD card slot on the front of the console. This cover is the little door located next to the disc slot.

    • 2

Press the sync button on the Wii console. This is the red button located next to the SD slot. Lights will begin to flash after you do this.

    • 3

Press the sync button on the Retro Wireless Controller. This is the red button located on the back of the controller. This must be done within about 10 seconds after pressing the Wii sync button.

    • 4

Wait for the lights on the Wii to stop flashing. This indicates that the sync is completed.
