How to Undo a System Update for the Wii

The popularity of the Wii has led to owners modifying or ̶0;moding̶1; the operating system so it can do things that weren't built into it by Nintendo. While that's not illegal, Nintendo often ̶0;breaks̶1; the modification through new system updates that can render the Wii unworkable. Since no one can know if the system update will affect the modified Wii until after it's been installed, the only recourse is to undo the system update afterward. You can do it on the Wii in a couple of minutes once you have gotten a GameCube controller and a ̶0;Wii service disk̶1; from a game store or a Wii parts and supply store.

Instructions

      Turn on the Wii. Insert the ̶0;Wii service disk̶1; into the disk slot and push it in until the mechanism grabs and automatically loads it. Turn off the Wii as soon as the disk is fully loaded into the disk drive.

      Plug the GameCube controller into the fourth GameCube controller port inside the compartment door on the side of the Wii.

      Hold down all the buttons on the ̶0;D-pad̶1; as you turn the the Wii back on.

      Wait as the ̶0;Wii service disk̶1; auto loads. Wait as the ̶0;Wii service disk̶1; displays the system update information and then proceeds to correct for the problems on the operating system and downgrade the system update to an earlier version.

      Turn on the Wii and hold down the disk eject button until the ̶0;Wii service disk̶1; is ejected. Remove the ̶0;Wii service disk̶1; and put it away. Turn off the Wii. Disconnect the GameCube controller.
